Armstrong rientra al Tour de Gila
Giovedì 22 aprile 2010 - Come lo scorso anno, Lance Armstrong rientrerà alle corse sulle strade del Tour de Gila in programma negli Stati Uniti dal 28 aprile al 2 maggio. Il texano, colpito da una gastroenterite all’inizio di aprile durante il Circuit de la Sarthe (ritiro forzato nel corso della prima tappa), ha ampiamente rivisto il suo programma di primavera, tirando una bella linea sulle classiche del calendario come Amstel Gold Race e Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi. Inoltre, il direttore sportivo e manager del team Radioshack Johan Bruyneel ha fatto sapere che Levi Leipheimer, ultimo vincitore, e Jason McCartney accompagneranno il sette volte vincitore del Tour de France per tutte e cinque le tappe del Tour de Gila, dove, nuovamente gli uomini Radioshack vestiranno la sacacca griffata “Mellow Johnny's”, ovvero il nome dello store di biciclette aperto da Armstrong a Austin, in Texas.
Il Tour de Gila prevede tre tappe in linea, un crono e un criterium in circuito cittadino. Ad Armstrong servirà per preparare il Giro della California previsto dal 16 al 23 maggio.

Armstrong si prepara al Tour of the Gila
La Radioshack ha confermato la formazione che da domani sarà al via del Giro di Romandia: in corsa ci saranno Jani Brajkovic, Matthew Busche, Markel Irizar, Tiago Machado, Sérgio Paulinho, José Luis Rubiera, Gert Steegmans e Haimar Zubeldia, diretti da Alain Gallopin e José Azevedo.
Allo SRAM Tour of the Gila (New Mexico, USA), 28/04-02/05/2010 saranno invece impegnati tre corrridori, vale a dire Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer e Jason McCartney: i tre, diretti da Johan Bruyneel, saranno al via grazie ad una deroga dell’Uci e indosseranno la maglia Mellow Johnny's.

Tour of the Gila, subito a segno Leipheimer
Levi Leipheimer ha messo subito il suo sigillo nella prima tappa del Tour of the Gila, la Silver City-Mogollon di 151 km. Con la maglia della Mellow Johnny's, Leipheimer ha attaccato sull’ultima salita, proprio come un anno fa, e ha preceduto al traguardo Tom Danielson (DZ Nuts) e Cesar Grajales (OUCH-Bahati Foundation), con Lance Armstrong ventiduesimo a 1’46” dal suo compagno di squadra. David Zabriskie, vincitore l’anno scorso, è arrivato 6º a 28” e Floyd Landis 19º a 1’28”.

Tour of the Gila, Seargent mette in fila i grandi nella crono
Con un risultato a sorpresa, lo statunitense Jesse Seargent ha vinto la terza tappa, una cronometro, del Tour of the Gila. Alle sue spalle tutti i grandi della corsa, vale a dire Levi Leipheimer, David Zabriskie, Tom Danielson e Lance Armstrong.

Tour of the Gila, volata vincente di Phinney
Il diciannovenne statunitense Taylor Phinney (Trek-Livestrong, nella foto) ha vinto lo SRAM Tour of the Gila criterium, battendo allo sprint Ivan Dominguez (Jamis-Sutter Home) e Charles Dionne (Fly V). Da parte sua Levi Leipheimer (Mellow Johnny’s) ha conservato la maglia di leader della classifica ben spalleggiato dai suoi due compagni di squadra Lance Armstrong e Jason McCartney rivelatisi ottimi gregari.
