Theo Bos goes off track Author: velodroom, Posted: Mon Nov 24, 2008 2:44 pm

    It's final.
Today Theo Bos announced his transition from track cycling to road cycling as from 2009. Apparantly he's already serious in training about two months. It's promising.
He lost about 5 to 6 kg (weighs now only 79 kg) to be more suitable to road cycling.
His goal in his first year in the Rabo Continental Team is to get accustomed to
his new trade. Prior to his 2001 World Junior 1K Title in Trexlertown as an 18-year old, Theo Bos already was an experienced road sprinter. In the second year of his contract, he's aiming for the "Pro Tour Team" of Rabobank.

His motive is, that achieving his ultimate goal for a (still missing) olympic gold medal is still far away. Remember he already focused for 4 years on Beijing and lost. And after a disappointing track season as a whole he's probably also realistic enough, that he's no longer capable of competing (not only) with the british youngsters Jason Kenny and David Daniell. Apart from Chris Hoy, but will he be around in 4 years at the absolute top?

Theo Bos makes a rare transition from a pure track sprinter to a road sprinter.
IMO this has never been done before on this level. Even Patrick Sercu was in this respect not a pure track sprinter.
